Artistic perspectives on adapting Malhoun into theatrical performances debated in Marrakech
The meeting "Malhoun and Theatre: From the Poetics of the Poem to the Aesthetics of Performance" was the theme of a gathering recently organised in Marrakech, with the participation of researchers and critics who explored the artistic perspectives offered by Malhoun poetry in the design of theatrical performances, leveraging its poetic, narrative, and rhythmic dimensions. Organised by the House of Poetry (Dar Chiir) of Marrakech, in coordination with the Cheikh Jilali Mtired Association and the Digital University Library under Cadi Ayyad University, this conference aimed to debate ways to transpose the Malhoun poem from the space of song to the theatrical stage, through the interaction between poetry, interpretation, and music. The discussions also highlighted the possibilities of exploring new forms of performance and reception in order to bring this heritage closer to a wider audience. The speakers mentioned several Moroccan experiences that have integrated the art of Malhoun into theatrical productions, notably the works of Abdelssalam ChraĂŻbi, such as "Al Harraz" and "Sidi Kaddour Alami", the contributions of Abdellah Mouaoui to the documentation of the theatrical memory of Marrakech and Morocco, as well as the experience of Abdelmajid Fennich through "Malhoun theatre" and "theatre Malhoun".
